On Tuesday, August 6th, 2019, the Village of Westchester will participate in our eighth annual National Night Out (NNO) campaign. In 1984 the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) introduced NNO. The NATW is a nonprofit, crime prevention organization which works in cooperation with thousands of crime watch groups and law enforcement agencies throughout the country. Since 1981, the NATW has been dedicated to the development, growth, and maintenance of organized crime and drug prevention programs nationwide. Last year’s NNO campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations, and local officials from over 16,790 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. In all, over 38.6 million people will join forces on August 6th. This year’s “36th Annual NNO” will be the largest ever.
Once again, we are looking for community support. This we year we have eliminated the walk and will instead kick off the event in its entirety at the Westchester Community Park, 10201 Bond, where residents will have a free swim in the community pool while listening to local musical entertainment. Additional activities planned at the park are a business fair, refreshments, giveaways, entertainment, etc. The purpose is to develop relationships between the residents and community in a partnership to further reduce crime in our neighborhoods
