THIS IS OUR MISSION
The mission of the Westchester Police Department is to work with
all citizens to preserve life, maintain human rights, protect property and
promote individual responsibility and community commitment.
Our Department’s goal is to assist citizens in preventing crime. Our
focus is to serve the community at-large, improve community awareness
and continue citizen education.
YOUR POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Police Department is located at 10300 W. Roosevelt Road. The
emergency number for all police, fire and ambulance emergencies is
911. The non-emergency number is 345-0060.
Here to serve you 24 hours a day, seven days a week—do not
hesitate to contact us for any police-related matter.
THE DEPARTMENT’S 3 DIVISIONS
The Westchester Police Department is broken down into three (3)
divisions: Patrol, Investigations and Administration. The Patrol Division
is responsible for maintaining a high visibility and often rapid response to
calls for service, as well as the aggressive/prevention patrolling of
Village streets. Marked squad cars and additional bike patrol units during
the summer keep an eye on the Village. The Investigative Division
handles the follow-up investigation of criminal incidents within the
Village, including juvenile matters and warrant services.
The Administrative Division handles the police/fire radio
telecommunications, department training, records, public information,
police equipment and crossing guards.
DID YOU KNOW?
The most frequently issued parking tickets are for non-display of
vehicle tags, no front license plate and expired license plate.
The most common traffic tickets are for violations which also
cause the most accidents/ injuries: speeding and failure to wear a seatbelt.
The complaint we most often hear from the public about is failure
to stop at stop signs.

OFFICER O’HAGAN & BRIX
In May 2005, the WPD purchased a new
Police K-9, a male German Shepherd. Handler
Officer Michael O’Hagan and Brix, pictured
above, take a bite out of crime every time they
are on duty together.
SAFETY TIPS
When going out walking, let someone know
where you will be and when you expect to
return. Know where you can run for help.
Remember that no coins are required to dial the
9-1-1 emergency number from pay telephones.
When going to or from your parked car in
deserted areas: When you leave your car, lock
it. As you approach your car, have the key
ready. Check the car’s interior before entering,
especially the back seat. At night, be sure to
park your car under a light if at all possible.
